Jelfa honoured for supporting women and their creativity

2010-03-26

Pharmaceutical Company Jelfa SA was honored for supporting women their creativity and inventiveness. In the years 2004- 2008, our company was granted the largest number of patents created by women.

Instytut Nauk Ekonomicznych within Polska Akademia Nauk under the management of professor Tadeusz Baczko conducted the research verifying the level of innovations in Polish companies.

The results of the said research were presented on the international conference „ innovations and creativity of women in science and business” which was held as of March 25 and 26, 2010 in Warsaw under the patronage of Waldemar Pawlak, Minister of Economy, Barbara Kudrycka, Minister of Regional Development, and Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Minister of Education. The conference was organized by Patent Agency, Warsaw Stock Exchange and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

We need to emphasize that 65% of individuals employed in the Research and Development Department and 70% of the staff members of Research Lab in Jelfa are women.

The relevant Diploma was granted by dr. Alicja Adamczak and professor Baczko and received by Agata Rębacz, Head of the Research Department, in the name of the Management Board of Jelfa.

Basing on the experience of the countries representing high level of technology, we already know that if we do not  use the intellectual potential of women we shall not enjoy the relevant economic growth. System barriers which Polish women encounter every day result in small number of patent applications (only 15% of total applications) filed by  ladies. It is in opposition to a large number of female University graduates, female research workers (app. 50% of total number of University staff members) and women who were granted PhDs (40% of PhD degrees are given to females). Such a high number of educated women and only few patent applications filed by them proves that ladies do not have proper access to the sources of financing the research works. The numbers show that almost 65% of scholarships in Poland are granted to males.

The afore-said negative  phenomena can be related to the fact that very few ladies hold top management positions; thus, very few of them actually make key decisions within companies, organizations and institutions. Therefore, it becomes clear that in order to be innovative and creative in terms of economy, we shall make sure that women have equal access to all levels of career within business and science area.
